In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, Akon has curated a playlist for Billboard with some Latin hits that he’s currently jamming to.
“COV19 has helped us see the real beauty and importance of the basic things in life,” the St. Louis-born artist says of this quarantine music list, which includes hits from Maluma, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, and his recent single “Te Quiero Amar” featuring Pitbull, to name a few.
Akon previously told Billboard that he’s always vouched for the Latin genre because he’s always been surrounded by Dominicans and Puerto Ricans who are like family to him. “I embrace the culture to the point that my nickname is ‘El Negreeto’… I’m loving this!”
In honor of his nickname and his 2019 Spanish-language album of the same name, Akon presents his “El Negreeto” quarantine playlist.
