Woman Sues Fetty Wap for Assault

Lanie Langlinais says the “Trap Queen” rapper pushed, choked and threatened to kill her at a party last June.

Fetty Wap is being sued by a woman who claims the rapper assaulted her at his Los Angeles home last June.

According to the complaint, which was filed by attorney Greg Kirakosian on behalf of plaintiff Lanie Langlinais in California Superior Court on Monday (April 6), the “Trap Queen” singer (real name: Willie Maxwell) pushed, grabbed, choked and threatened to kill the woman after he became heavily intoxicated at a party held at his home on the evening of June 19, 2019.

Langlinais is now suing the hip-hop star for assault and battery, gender violence, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress over the incident.

“Throughout the incident and following the incident, Plaintiff felt extreme fear for her health and safety and felt extreme pain and swelling on numerous parts of her body,” the complaint reads. “To date, Plaintiff continues to suffer from extreme distress, humiliation, indignation, and outrage as a result of Fetty Wap’s intoxicated and violent conduct.”

Among other things, Langlinais accuses the rapper of grabbing her “by the arm, neck, and hair, ripping parts of her clothes and her neckless [sic] from her body” after overhearing an unspecified remark she made about the party to a friend. She further alleges that several witnesses were forced to rush to her aid as the assault continued, and that the rapper continued yelling “I’ll kill you” as she escaped from the house.

After leaving the party, the suit states that Langlinais immediately called 911 to report the alleged crime, and that she was later “informed and believes” that he was charged over the incident. However, it appears no criminal case was ever pursued.

“It is shameful that the LAPD and district attorney overlooked the violent strangling and battery of women at the hands of a celebrity,” said Kirakosian in a statement sent to Billboard. “We look forward to pursuing this matter to a jury trial and getting justice for our client.”

Langlinais is asking the court for economic and non-economic damages, prejudgment interest and interest on damages, punitive and exemplary damages and attorneys’ fees and costs.

A representative for Fetty Wap did not immediately respond to Billboard’s request for comment.

This isn’t the first time Fetty Wap has been accused of assault. Last September, the rapper was arrested on charges of misdemeanor battery after allegedly assaulting a security officer at a Las Vegas hotel. A judge later agreed to dismiss the charges if he stayed out of trouble.
