Several reports have confirmed that Major League Baseball pitcherth Reyes Moronta passed away this morning in a motorcycle accident in his native Dominican Republic. Moronta was 31 years old.
One of Moronta’s former teams in the Dominican Republic, Aguilas Cibaenas, first announced his passing via their social media account.
“We profoundly regret the unexpected death of pitcher Reyes Moronta, who died yesterday.”

Moronta was riding a motorcycle in the Villa Gonzalez community, in the northern part of his home country, on Sunday night when the accident occurred.
“The Aguilas board, the baseball operations department and players share the pain with his family, and we pray for his eternal rest,” the team said.
The right hander piutched for four different teams over the span of seven seasons, however, his strongest performance on the mound was for the SanFrancisco Giants from 2017 to 2023. Moronta was one of the Goants’ top relief pitchers in 2018, striking out 149 batters in a combined 125 relief appearances with a 2.66 ERA.
Reyes suffered a shoulder injury the next year, which sat him out the entire 2020 season before returning to San Francisco the following year. He posted a 3.05 total ERA in 177 career games with the Giants, the L.A. Dodgers, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels, where he pitched two games last season before signing earlier this year with Mexico’s Bravos De Leon.
