Lil Wayne welcomed fellow New Orleans native August Alsina to the season one finale of Young Money Radio, where the two artists revisited Alsina’s widely publicized past relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.
Alsina, who appeared on the Apple Music program Friday (July 17) to promote his third album, The Product III: State of Emergency, made headlines recently after Pinkett Smith confirmed that she and the singer were romantically involved during her separation from Will Smith.
The 27-year-old “No Love” singer admitted to Weezy that he will always have feelings for Pinkett Smith — who described her relationship with Alsina as an “entanglement” during an episode of her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk — and that the ordeal has changed his life for the better.
“I will always have love for her as a person,” Alsina told Wayne. “The experience really did help to transform me and really bring out the king in me.”
In late June, during an interview with The Breakfast Club radio host Angela Yee, Alsina claimed that the Smiths had an open marriage that that Will allegedly gave him permission to date Jada. Alsina doubled down on this claim during his appearance on Young Money Radio.
“As two men, we had a conversation and that’s what it was,” Alsina told Wayne. Everything that I’ve spoken on in my initial interview is and was, and still is, my exact truth.”
Alsina also addressed criticism that he used his past romance with Pinkett Smith to help publicize his new album.
“Absolutely not,” the singer said. “What’s perplexing to me is that I never think it’s anybody’s business to know my business. But when my personal business starts to affect my lifestyle and my livelihood, like I lost partnerships and deals behind that situation — because it looked to the world as if August Alsina was some reckless New Orleans n—a that I’m just pushing up on somebody’s wife.”
Despite everything, Alsina says he has no ill feelings toward the Smith family.
“Here’s the deal, man, nobody’s wrong here,” he said. “Nobody’s a bad person. She didn’t prey on me, or whatever that people are saying.”
Episode 12 of Weezy’s Young Money Radio on Beats 1 also featured interviews with 2 Chainz, Chris Brown, Birdman and the Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Jones. Stream the show here.
