Take It or Leave It: What Highsnobs Are Bringing Into 2025 (& Leaving Behind)

In 2024, the fashion gods gaveth and tooketh away. Matthieu Blazy departed Bottega Veneta for Chanel. Charli XCX’s brat green usurped Barbie pink. Stanley cups became the new Crocs. Dressed as a Mugler robot, Zendaya stole the show during the Dune 2 press tour. Quiet luxury met its challenger: maximally accessorized handbags. Speaking of challengers — anyone remember Challengers and its Jonathan Anderson-designed costumes

But as the saying goes, you can’t take it with you (that includes your I Told Ya T-shirt and your bag charms). We asked Highsnobiety staff what they’re saying goodbye to as 2024 comes to a close — and what they hope to see more of in the new year.

Jake Silbert, Director of News

As we leave 2024, I’d like to bid farewell to the adidas Samba. It’s a great sneaker! But it’s also so ubiquitous that it’s about time to upgrade with something weirder, something snazzier. So, I propose a sneaker-openmindedness for 2025 — new year, new shoes, or something like that.

Alexandra Pauly, Beauty Editor

Enough with the “-core” aesthetics. It seems like a new one crops up every week, and it’s impossible to keep up. How are we supposed to cultivate personal style when the trend cycle moves at breakneck speed?

I have to leave doomscrolling behind. The itch for it has never been stronger going into 2025, and I’m not going to make it if I keep it up. Still workshopping what’s going to replace it —  at the moment, it’s looking like crossword puzzles (for phone time) and getting involved in a community garden (for IRL time).

Max Migowski, Shopping Editor

Balenciaga’s Erewhon totes, horseback riding at Vogue World, Coperni’s show at Disneyland — let’s issue a cease and desist to fashion’s gimmicks. The most refreshing thing a brand can do in 2025 is make it about the clothes.

Tom Barker, Style Editor

Short shorts. I don’t care how many times Paul Mescal or Donald Glover wear them and I don’t care how good their legs look — those tiny things aren’t comfy. Stop pushing the short shorts agenda in 2025 and give me big, baggy ‘90s shorts. I’m team Adam Sandler.

Jeffrey Lockhart, Social Media Editor

It seems like everyday I wake up, it’s a new sneaker or clothing collaboration of some sort, and most are meaningless. So let’s leave the meaningless collaborations in 2024 and only bring intentional collaborations to the table in 2025.

Sebastian Jean, Fashion Director

I’m leaving my checked bag in 2024 and taking my carry-on more in 2025. At least I’m gonna try…

Donovan Barnett, Watch Editor

I’m finally caving and jumping on the dress watch wave in 2025 (I know, I’m late). That means retiring my sports watches and integrated bracelets in 2024 and opting for smaller cases, leather straps, and vintage grails as tailored looks return to the meta.
