Lil Wayne returned this week with another episode of his Young Money show on Apple Music, this time featuring special guest Kid Cudi. And Weezy wasted no time in asking for a collab.
During the episode, Cudi discussed his new music, including his most recent track “The Adventures of Moon Man and Slim Shady” with Eminem. Inspired by the collab, Wayne asked Cudi to send him a track so that they could collaborate as well, to which the Cleveland rapper agreed. “Eminem effect when I send it back,” Wayne replied.
Cudi also revealed that Wayne actually made the Em collaboration possible. “Well it’s crazy because your interview kind of set it off, right?” Cudi said, referring to Wayne’s Young Money Radio episode with the Detroit rapper.
After the interview aired, Cudi’s team reached out to Em’s manager, Paul Rosenberg. “I had the record and I just was like, ‘Man, let’s send it to him. The worst that could happen is, he doesn’t fuck with it, and then at the end of the day, I won’t be mad about it.’”
Cudi detailed how ecstatic he was when Em responded affirmatively. “I had to tell him, I was like, ‘Yo bro, you fucking destroyed this shit.’ Because I was nervous because I was like, ‘Man, I’m fucking going get him Eminem on my song, he going body me on my own shit.’”
It seems Lil Wayne’s show has the cultural clout to make iconic collabs happen, so it waits to be seen whether a Cudi-Weezy track will actually happen.
