Kanye West touched on his political campaign in a newly-published Forbes interview, where he made some shameful remarks regarding Planned Parenthood. After getting wind of the comments, the organization has since responded to West.
In the interview, Kanye — who is anti-abortion — said, “Planned Parenthoods have been placed inside cities by white supremacists to do the Devil’s work.” This in turn prompted a quick response from Nia Martin-Robinson, the Director of Black Leadership and Engagement at Planned Parenthood’s national headquarters.
“Black women are free to make our own decisions about our bodies and pregnancies, and want and deserve to have access to the best medical care available,” she told TMZ. “Any insinuation that abortion is Black genocide is offensive and infantilizing. The real threat to Black communities’ safety, health, and lives stems from lack of access to quality, affordable health care, police violence and the criminalization of reproductive health care by anti-abortion opposition.”
Kanye’s stance on Planned Parenthood is particularly eye-opening, if no other reason than because his wife, Kim Kardashian, is a vocal supporter. She has yet to publicly address her husband’s views on Planned Parenthood, but if he is in fact running for president, the topic will not doubt come up sooner rather than later.
