Swizz Beatz Goes for Drake After Busta Rhymes Collab Leaks

When Drake and Busta Rhymes‘ J Dilla-produced track “Stay Down” mysteriously dropped last Wednesday, most fans were thrilled. But not Busta’s longtime collaborator Swizz Beatz, however, who made his thoughts abundantly clear on an Instagram Live session this weekend.

Busta and Drake recorded “Stay Down” when they were both signed to Cash Money Records. Busta alluded to the track in a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone, but the song never materialized — until last week, of course, when it leaked online. Drake even references the delay in his verse: “Look I’m sorry that I’m super late. I was driving here jamming them Lil Boosie tapes.”

When Busta and Swizz linked up on Instagram Live this weekend, the conversation quickly turned to the leak. Swizz raged that his “filter [was] burnt” before going in on Drake, calling him “a pussy for real. What’s up? Pop off. Let’s go.”

“My whole energy was based on something that got leaked that you couldn’t put out no matter what the circumstances is,” Swizz said. “But it’s cool. That’s a little kid. That’s a guy. That’s a little guy. … It’s no personal things … If it was personal we’d shoot your plane out the sky.”

Busta appeared less annoyed and showed little animosity towards Drake. “I don’t want to get it misconstrued,” he explained. “He didn’t come to me to make a record with me. He wanted to do [J Dilla’s] beat. Dilla beats. That’s what it was about. That’s all I’m saying.”

Swizz has since walked back his comments, apologizing to Drake, and explaining that he was in “the wrong space” when he commented on the leak over the weekend. Watch his apology below.
