The song makes for historic turnover atop the summery summary.
DaBaby‘s “Rockstar,” featuring Roddy Ricch, hits No. 1 on Billboard‘s Songs of the Summer chart, dated June 20.
The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 6 through Sept. 5). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed.
Notably, “Rockstar” marks the third No. 1 in the three weeks since the Songs of the Summer chart made its annual return, after Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” featuring BeyoncĂ© (June 13), and Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me” (June 6).
The turnover atop the tally is historic, as never before had three songs reigned in the chart’s first three weeks in any year, since the list became a weekly feature in 2010. In fact, only one Songs of the Summer tracking period has seen more songs at No. 1: 2018, when four hits took turns on top, with Drake’s “In My Feelings” eventually wrapping the season at No. 1.
Conversely, a single song ruled Songs of the Summer from start to finish in 2019 (Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus); 2017 (Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber); 2016 (Drake’s “One Dance,” featuring WizKid and Kyla); 2014 (Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX); and 2010 (Katy Perry’s “California Gurls,” featuring Snoop Dogg).
As previously reported, “Rockstar” rules the Hot 100 for a second week.
Rounding out the latest Songs of the Summer top five, “Savage” slips to No. 2; The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” lifts 4-3; “Rain on Me” falls 2-4; and Doja Cat’s “Say So” holds at No. 5.
Meanwhile, one song enters the Songs of the Summer top 10: SAINt JHN’s “Roses,” which rises 12-10. It ascends 10-7 on the Hot 100.
