Drake adds a record-extending 28th No. 1 to his Billboard Rhythmic Songs airplay chart ledger as “Toosie Slide” skips 3-1 to lead the chart dated May 9. The single climbs with a 19% surge in plays in the week ending May 3, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
“Slide” arrives in the penthouse in its fifth week on the list, underscoring the rate at which Drake has become the radio format’s most automatic star in recent years. Since the Rhythmic Songs chart began in 1993, only 15 songs have raced to the top slot in five weeks or less. Drake owns three of them.
Pre-“Slide,” he sent “God’s Plan” to No. 1 in five weeks in 2018, while “In My Feelings” completed the journey in four frames later that year.
As Drake enlists No. 28 into his ranks, here’s an updated leaderboard of acts with the most Rhythmic Songs No. 1s:
28, Drake
17, Rihanna
13, Usher
11, Bruno Mars
11, Chris Brown
11, Lil Wayne
10, The Weeknd
Beyond its Rhythmic reception, “Slide” has quickly ascended into the upper ranks of several other airplay lists for the tracking week ending May 3. The single steps 3-2 on Rap Airplay, where it posts a 19% gain in audience, while it takes a 4-3 rise on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. On the latter, it improves 13% to 24.4 million in audience.
Pop radio, too, has embraced “Slide” with speed, with the song lifting 16-14 on the Pop Songs airplay chart through a 13% jump in plays. With the increase, “Slide” becomes the seventh of Drake’s 30 chart entries to reach the top 15 in five weeks or better.
Gains at multiple formats naturally feed into forward progress on the all-genre Radio Songs chart, where “Slide” registers a 67.9 million audience total (up 16%) and cracks the top 10 with a 12-10 strut. The move secures Drake’s 23rd Radio Songs top 10 hit, tying Mariah Carey for the second-best sum since the chart’s 1990 launch. Rihanna leads the pack with 29.
