Aside from hosting livestream concerts and releasing new music, artists are making the most of their self-quarantines by creating or hopping on viral social media challenges.
Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin launched the latest one, the viral “All-In Challenge,” which strives to combat food insecurity during the COVID-19 pandemic by donating the most-prized possessions of the biggest sports, music and TV stars or offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities at an online auction. On the table is Meek Mill‘s Maybach, a home visit from Justin Bieber, during which he’ll personally serenade a fan with “One Less Lonely Girl,” and a weekend getaway to Los Angeles via Air Drake where a lucky person hangs out with him and the OVO team at Delilah (as well as tickets to his next show in their hometown and OVO and Nike care packages).
Megan Thee Stallion transformed her “Savage” track from her recent EP Suga to the soundtrack of one of the Internet’s hottest dance routines. The TikTok-savvy couple of Justin and Hailey Bieber jumped on the trend, along with Meg’s “Diamonds” collaborator Normani and Ryan Destiny, and even Janet Jackson, whose “Nasty” lyrics came in handy when the 25-year-old artist raps, “Sassy, moody, nasty.”
Tim McGraw also drew superstars to his #DeepCutsChallenge, which he launched by performing John Schneider‘s “Take the Long Way Home” and nominating Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean and Kenny Chesney to jam out to one of their favorite underrated songs. Paisley took the baton and ran with it, passing it on to Darius Rucker and creating a chain of country power players performing all over Instagram. Additionally, Russell Dickerson, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen and more participated in the “Demo Challenge” that Kelsea Ballerini spawned so the genre’s leaders could upload their original recordings.
Gillie Da Kid passed along his “Kush Up Challenge,” one step higher than the “Push-Up Challenge,” to Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and G-Herbo, as each rapper took 10 puffs from their blunts without letting any smoke out.
