Lifetime has shared the first official trailer for its new biopic on influential hip-hop group, Salt-N-Pepa. The clip is appropriately back by their hit 1980s single, “Push It.”
The three-hour miniseries chronicles the careers of Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton, from nursing students to becoming the first platinum-selling female hip-hop act and first Grammy-winning female rap group.
Directed by Mario Van Peebles, the Salt-N-Pepa biopic stars G.G. Townson as Salt and Laila Odom as Pepa, while Monique Paul portrays third member DJ Spinderella. Cleveland Berto also features as Hurby “Luv Bug” Azor, the group’s friend and producer who helped launch their career. Salt and Pepa serve as executive producers for the project alongside Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, and Jessie Collins.
Lifetime has yet to announce a release date for the biopic, which is reported to arrive later this year. Nonetheless, you can watch the first trailer for the Salt-N-Pepa miniseries below.
