Want to see what Post Malone looked like before he blew up into an international superstar? Then check out the throwback video that 50 Cent posted on Tuesday (April 14) for his 2015 mixtape track “Tryna F–k Me Over.” The song from Fif’s five-year-old The Kanan Tape opens with the dynamic duo chatting about the night before in a car before getting interrupted by the police.
Over a chiming bells and a laconic beat, 50 then runs through a list of flex moves before hitting the chorus and making way for Posty’s verse. “Right before I came into this b–ch hot/ Needed cigarettes, I made a pit stop/ Spent my life tryna be a good guy/ Still people want to see me get got/ Nothing like it ever was before/ Hair falling out, I’m twenty years old/ Got a lot of stress, that you don’t know,” Malone raps, looking excited to share the screen with the rap icon.
You can tell it’s early days for the “Circles” rapper — who was just starting to get hot that year due to his breakthrough single, “White Iverson” — because Post is rocking his skinny braids and is missing the signature face and hand tats that adorn his body now. The unremarkable visual has the two men rapping in a dark room with superimposed lightning in the background intercut with clips of club dancers spinning light rigs.
It’s unclear why 50 posted the video this week, but in a tweet he suggested it was simply an oversight.
