When Kevin Durant tweets, the twitter verse takes notice. The future NBA Hall of Famer recently made waves with a comment that many believe was aimed at, the boogeyman himself, Kendrick Lamar.
The NBA star, known for his outspoken nature shows love for fellow rapper J. Cole but it’s what he also said that has everyone marking off bingo cards.
Let’s get right to the comment from Durant.

In case the post wasn’t super clear, Durant was commenting on a post about J. Cole’s highly regarded track “Clouds,” Durant wrote, “I don’t care bout none of that fake tough guy shit. This is mastery.” The remark quickly sparked speculation that Durant was throwing shade at Kendrick, who has long been associated with a tough persona in his music.
To keep on with the transcription …
As fans or haters reacted with their twitter fingers, Durant defended his position on X (formerly Twitter). When one user called him a “fake tough guy,” Durant responded, “U took that as a personal shot towards your favorite?” He continued, clarifying his stance by saying, “I’m dissing all yall fans who can’t listen to Cole without saying hes ‘soft.’”
THAT PART.
The exchange escalated when another fan suggested Durant was only supporting Cole in an indirect jab at Lamar, to which the basketball star shot back, “I’m throwing shade at fans like you, been hatin on Cole this whole time. Just listen to the music and stfu.”
THAT OTHER PART, ha!
This wasn’t the first time Durant seemed to downplay Kendrick Lamar’s status.
Many enjoyed that one too. But let’s remind ya’ll just in case it escaped your feed.
That went down during an interview where Durant made remarks about Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance, Durant stated, “It meant nothing to me. No thoughts — I didn’t really pay attention to it to be honest. It was a little boring day for a Super Bowl. The game got out of hand. The Super Bowl Halftime Show — I didn’t pay attention to it. I kinda skimmed through the whole thing, to be honest.”
Chuckles on chuckles.
Here’s that clip ICYMI …
Anyways, Durant’s public loyalty to Drake also fuels the ongoing tension between the two camps.
Yes, KD has picked a side and made it crystal clear.
The Suns star was credited as an A&R on Drake’s album For All the Dogs, explaining, “I’m just there for him whenever Drake wants to talk about life, and he just gave me that title.” Drake has frequently referenced Durant in his songs, including the track “Weston Road Flows,” where he raps, “Shout out to KD, we relate, we get the same attention / It’s rainin’ money, Oklahoma City Thunder.”
And on that note, Kevin Durant has once again captivated our attention and we’re here for every bit of it.
