If you saw Frank Ocean’s messy, in-person-only Coachella set, you were one of the lucky ones. The Blonded singer has canceled his headlining set during Coachella’s second weekend as a result of doctor’s orders.
Frank Ocean’s first Coachella set was already kind of a mess. It was pulled from Coachella’s weekend livestream and was, according even to the people who were fortunate enough to see it IRL, not quite perfect.
Ocean, for his part, had apparently suffered some injuries prior to Coachella from some sort of bike accident, according to insider reports, but so it goes. It didn’t help that Ocean showed up to the stage an hour late, occasionally had a vocal track play instead of actually singing himself, and skipped some of his most popular songs (honestly, not even necessarily the weirdest thing Frank’s done in the past year).
However, Ocean’s health concerns appear to be pretty serious, serious enough that he’s canceled his scheduled set that was supposed to headline a night during Coachella’s second weekend, which begins April 21.
“Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella,” the singer’s reps said in a statement.
“After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity. On doctor’s advice, Frank Ocean is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”
“It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos,” Frank himself added. “It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.”
Fans are still hoping that Ocean will release some new material in line with his scheduled Coachella set, which was initially (and loosely) teased prior to Coachella’s first weekend.
However, not only was Ocean’s set a disappointment, but fans waiting for new tunes still very much remain on the hook.
