Fans Choose The Chicks' 'Gaslighter' as This Week's Favorite New Music

The Chicks‘ long-awaited new album, Gaslighter, has topped this week’s new music poll.

Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (July 17) on Billboard, choosing the latest studio album from the country music trio formerly known as the Dixie Chicks.

Gaslighter, The Chicks’ follow-up to 2006’s Taking the Long Way, brought in 34 percent of the vote, beating out new music by DJ Khaled and Drake, Ellie Goulding, Troye Sivan and others.

The group’s fifth studio set, Gaslighter features the previously released tracks “Juliana Calm Down,” “March March,” “Sleep At Night” and the title track. The LP was originally scheduled for release in May, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was pushed back to July 17.

Chicks members Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines and Emily Strayer dropped Dixie from their name in June, explaining at the time: “We want to meet this moment.”

Coming in second place on this week’s poll with nearly 27 percent of the vote was the “other” artist category, followed by DJ Khaled and Drake’s new collaborations “Greece” and “Popstar.” The latter tracks brought in 18.5 percent of the vote.

Drizzy and Khaled go way back. The hip-hop heavyweights worked on the track “I’m on One,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011, and joined forces on the tracks “For Free” and “Fed Up.”

“Greece” and “Popstar” are the first new tunes from DJ Khaled’s forthcoming 12th studio album, Khaled Khaled, due out later this year.
