Beyoncé to Release 'Black Is King' Visual Album on Disney+

Beyoncé is set to release another visual album, titled Black Is King on Disney+ next month, Variety reports.

Bey made the announcement sharing a one-minute teaser to her website on Saturday night. The new visual album is inspired by the music of last year’s The Lion King: The Gift and is written, directed and executive produced by Beyoncé. The project is set to be released via Disney+ on July 31st, 2020, marking the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s The Lion King remake, for which Queen Bey voiced Nala.

Black Is King is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience,” Disney and Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment shared in a statement. “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”

The empowering project celebrates Black excellence by reimagining The Lion King for “today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.” The film has reportedly been in production for one year now.

Last week, Beyoncé dropped the track “Black Parade” on Juneteenth. It’s unclear whether the song will be featured on Black Is King. Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming project, and watch the trailer below.
