8 Dream Hip-Hop Collaborative Projects: Who Should Be Next After Travis Scott & Kid Cudi?

Kid Cudi and Travis Scott joined forces to quench the thirst of fans who had been clamoring for them to reunite when they released their spacey “THE SCOTTS” collaboration last month (April 24), which debuts atop the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

It was a seminal moment for La Flame when he got to check working with his idol off his bucket list, as the duo united for “Through The Late Night” from his 2016 album, Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight. It’s not every new music Friday that fans get a long-awaited hip-hop super-duo… which got us thinking about the dream collaborations we’d love to see at some point. Whether they happen or not, it can’t hurt to put the idea into the universe!

Check out our eight dream hip-hop collaborative projects below:

Q-Tip & YBN Cordae

The master meets the apprentice. Q-Tip teaming up with Cordae could be another brick laid down when bridging the growing generational gap. Earlier in April, Cordae kicked a quarantine freestyle over a jazzy beat that was oozing with Tribe vibes. The clip found its way to The Abstract, as he reposted it to his own IG. With the mutual respect already there, could a collaboration be in the works for Cordae’s sophomore album?

Kendrick Lamar & Roddy Ricch

The pride and joy of Compton, California. There looks to be a passing of the torch happening in Los Angeles: with K. Dot in relative hiding, Roddy Ricch grabbed the baton to close out 2019, as he notched a No. 1 album and held the Billboard Hot 100 top spot for 11 weeks with “The Box.” After posting a picture in the studio together in December, there were rumors Lamar was the hidden feature on Roddy’s project, but that didn’t come to fruition. Hopefully the timing will be right for the next go-round.

J. Cole & Andre 3000

Andre 3000… with a different partner in rhyme? Consider it: Cole has Three Stacks in his top five rappers of all-time, and you just know he’d recognize this as a moment in hip-hop and bring his A-game to the table. Andre’s melodies and boundless creativity would probably push Cole outside of his comfort zone, which is something we rarely get to see from the greats.

Missy Elliott & Nicki Minaj

Two of the illest to ever pick up a pen. When you combine Missy’s lethal songwriting with Nicki’s love for witty punchlines that will leave a hole in your chest, the possibilities are endless. The cherry on top of this potential collaboration would be the blockbuster visuals that Elliott would cook-up behind the lens as director. We’re already chuckling at the thought of Minaj floating in Missy’s bubble suit.

A$AP Rocky & Travis Scott

Rocky and La Flame both played a major role in shifting what a superstar rapper looks and sounds like during the 2010s. The duo was often compared to one another during their rise, which resulted in a manufactured feud that was only amplified by fans. Back in Oct. of 2019, Rocky tweeted that he was ready to move past their “beef,” and how fitting would it be for the Mob frontman and Cactus Jack to link up and finally put this to bed with an astronomical project?

Kanye West & Playboi Carti

West has always been known for bringing the best out of his collaborators, by putting them in the position to properly utilize their talents. On its face, a Yeezy-Carti collab might sound peculiar, but when you look deeper, you’ll see there’s a common denominator.

Pi’erre Bourne produced both Die Lit and Carti’s self-titled debut for the Atlanta native. Bourne also hasn’t been shy about letting the world know about how West inspired him, and Yeezy took note of his ability, as Pi’erre contributed to Ye and Jesus Is King. West actually got to see Cash Carti up close before he was a household name, when Playboi made an appearance to perform “What” at his 2016 G.O.O.D. Music showcase in NYC following Kanye’s YEEZY Season 4 fashion show.

Young Thug & Kid Cudi

When Kid Cudi broke down barriers of the hip-hop ecosystem with his “emo-rap” circa 2009, there’s no doubt that it helped pave the way for an artist like Young Thug to eventually thrive. Thugger’s ad-libs combined with Cudder’s heavenly humming, would sure make for an fascinatingly experimental collaboration in 2020.

Drake & Lil Uzi Vert

With the way Drake wraps his arms around up-and-coming artists, it’s kind of surprising he’s never worked with Uzi, since he’s worked with a good amount of the 2016 XXL Freshman’s contemporaries. Now that LUV finally dropped the long-awaited Eternal Atake, and with Drake expected to come with an album of his own later this year, the 6 God and Uzi joining forces might smash every streaming record out there.
