It’s definitely Dre’s day.
As promised, Dr. Dre is making everyone’s 4/20 holiday something to smoke about. The rapper/producer’s 1992 Death Row Records classic, The Chronic, became available across all major DSPs on Monday morning (April 20), just in time for the stoner holiday.
The beloved West Coast rap classic, featuring such iconic tracks as “Let Me Ride,” “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang,” “Lil’ Ghetto Boy” and “Rat-Tat-Tat-Tat,” helped to introduce the world to the likes of Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, Nate Dogg, Warren G, Lady of Rage, D.O.C, RBX, and others.
“Fans now have another reason to celebrate on what has become a national holiday, celebrating all things cannabis-related – where legally allowed and in moderation of course,” said eOne’s global president music & live Chris Taylor earlier this month in announcing the long-awaited digital arrival of the album. “Working with the Death Row catalogue is like working with the legendary recordings of Elvis, Chuck Berry, and the Beatles. These historic artifacts should be heard by all music lovers and we are so happy Dr. Dre has opened this door so everyone can experience the brilliance of this seminal work.” For the past five years, The Chronic was available for streaming only on Apple Music.
