Swae Lee on Upcoming 'Human Nature' Album: 'I'm Breaking all the Rules'

Swae Lee‘s highly-anticipated Human Nature album remains without a firm release date, but the Rae Sremmurd frontman promises the solo effort’s arrival before September expires.

Billboard‘s Chelsea Briggs caught up with Swae Lee to get a peek at his upcoming project, how he landed on Pop Smoke‘s posthumous album and the release of his boohooMAN collaboration.

“It’s gonna be huge,” the crooner proclaims of the Swaecation followup. “I’m breaking all the rules [and] I’m breaking all the boundaries. I’m making my own song formats and doing some production on there. I’m just doing what sounds good to the ear. People know me for a certain style, so I’m just giving them styles they didn’t even know I could do. Sonically, I’m scientific with it. I’m creating moods with my next album.”

Swae connected with the late Pop Smoke for the woozy “Creature,” but the song was actually made following the Brooklyn rapper’s passing. “Me and Pop spoke a few times and showed [each other] love from a distance. We ended up meeting at the Astroworld [Festival],” he explains. “I did that song on another beat and Pop Smoke’s people had reached out saying, ‘We want to get y’all two on a record together.’ So I sent them that song thinking it would probably be a good fit for us. They pieced it together and it’s a smash.”

The “Sunflower” singer is also flexing his designer talents. Swae is teaming up with boohooMAN for a capsule collection, which drops on the boohooMAN website on Thursday (July 23). The 27-year-old’s Official Worldwide Graphic Printed Tracksuit features a matching white sweatshirt and sweatpants, which are emblazoned with hand-drawn artwork across the cozy garments.
