Black Music Month 2020: PJ Morton Reflects the Many Different Emotions of the Moment With 'BLM' Playlist

This year, Black Music Month takes a different turn. Because of the horrific deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and more, we at Billboard hope to uplift and empower African Americans during this cloudy and dubious time. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the remainder of the month, an artist will provide a playlist designed to remedy the heartaches endured by the Black community.

On the heels of debuting his weekly The Culture YouTube show celebrating Black culture earlier in June, PJ Morton continues our Black Music Month playlist series with an uplifting collection of 14 tracks. The Black Lives Matter playlist includes music from Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, Rapsody, Marvin Gaye, himself, and more.

“I feel like there is a myriad of emotions attached to where we are in the world right now,” Morton says. “People are angry, people are proud, people are tired, people are planning, and people are hopeful. I think there are songs in this playlist that speak to all of those sentiments.”

Give the playlist a listen below.
