Drake Talks New Album: It’s ‘Fresh and Brand New’

Drake was a virtual guest for Diddy’s digital “dance-a-thon,” and he had a few things to say about his upcoming album.

Just days after his new tune “Toosie Slide” hit sales charts around the world, Drizzy is turning his attention to the followup to Scorpion, his triple album from 2018.

One thing we know for certain, the Coronavirus pandemic has shaped the LP. And Drizzy is actually motivated by being stuck indoors.

“I’m working on the album, I’ve been working on it for a while now,” Drake explained. He’s admittedly “hyped” about his efforts. Self-isolation has provided a silver lining on this forthcoming, sixth studio set. There are no distractions, no parties in Miami. “I remember the last time I had to sit down was when I tore my ACL (in 2009). And I made a great album out of that. Obviously god has us all inside the house right now. Definitely, it’s the most excited I’ve been about an album in a long time.”

Without giving out any solid details, Drake did confirm everything on the album is “fresh and brand new.” And it’s “probably the most music I’ve been sitting on.”

There’s no timetable for its release or a name attached to the project.

Drake is coming off another monster year. Following the success of the chart smash Scorpion, the first album to reach one billion streams across all platforms, Drake was named IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year for the second time.

Diddy held the “world’s biggest dance-a-thon” Sunday afternoon (April 12) on Instagram Live, encouraging followers to make donations to a COVID-19 relief fund at teamlove.com in support of frontline workers. The hip-hop entrepreneur also invited his ex J.Lo on the show.
